Efforts to Establish Inner Coast Wilderness Range Advance

The state Senate voted 24-12 Thursday to approve legislation to protect and preserve the geological, historic and cultural attributes of Yolo and 12 other counties along the Northern Inner Coast Range.

Senate Bill 1396 would establish the Inner Coast Range Program within the Wildlife Conservation Board, the state agency that administers a capital outlay program for wildlife conservation and related public recreation.

The bill, which is also coauthored by Senator Mike McGuire and Assembly Member Marc Levine, will be heard next by the Assembly, where it faces no serious opposition.

Assemblyman Marc Levine’s anti-conflict of interest bill clears first hurdle

State Assemblyman Marc Levine wants to close “the revolving door.”

He took the first step toward accomplishing that this week when his proposed anti-conflict of interest bill, AB 2628, sometimes known as a “revolving door ban,” was approved by the Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting.

Caltrans touts efforts to protect swallows at Petaluma bridge

During an afternoon news conference near the construction site, Caltrans officials said there would be only “limited construction” in bird nesting areas, work that should be completed by the end of March. The conference, which brought Caltrans and wildlife representatives together, was organized by State Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael.

California considers banning anorexic models

Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael, said AB2539 is an effort to reduce the number of eating disorders among models by creating industry health standards and requiring modeling agencies to be licensed by the California Labor Commissioner. Under the legislation, models would need a physician’s certificate attesting that they don’t suffer from an eating disorder, which agencies would be required to keep on file or face a fine.
