Supporting Undocumented Foster Children

The federal government is supposed to help abused and neglected undocumented children obtain lawful, permanent residency in the United States, providing greater stability for young people that have experienced trauma.

Currently, almost all undocumented children in foster care qualify for immigration relief, but the Trump administration is doing everything in their power to ensure that relief is difficult to obtain without legal assistance.

Unlike our federal government, California will not abandon its undocumented youth and our moral obligation to help them achieve the American dream. AB 1324 is Marc’s bill to provide legal assistance to foster youth who are struggling to navigate a system that’s stacked against them.

If AB 1324 is passed, California will be required to work with non-profit organizations to fund legal services for almost all foster children identified as undocumented and help them achieve permanent residency under federal law.
